With the Premiership back on our screens this evening, a lot of talk has been around the impact of Coronavirus and the constant cancelled fixtures we are seeing in other international competitions. We've seen Fiji's Autumn Nation's Cup campaign ravaged by automatic disqualifications due to an outbreak of Covid in there squad. We obviously saw Sale forfeit a fixture last season that meant they lost out on the top 4 too...
However, it's great to see that the Gallagher Premiership head honcho's have been proactive about discussions regarding automatic forfeits. They have now confirmed that a four point win will be awarded to the club able to name a side, with two points to the squad forced to cancel. The result will also be scored as a 0 - 0, not impacting any points difference in the league table.
We believe this to be a key decision, made early in order to lessen the calamities brought on by unavoidable results; something the Autumn Nation's Cup, amongst other competitions, could learn a thing or two from.
